Lake County – Late yesterday evening and early this morning, March 8th and 9th, between 11:00 p.m. – 1:00 a.m., Indiana State Police, Lake County Sheriff’s Department, Gary Police Department and Indiana University Northwest Police conducted a sobriety checkpoint on Broadway at 33rd Avenue in Gary.  During the two-hour period, officers located and arrested seven impaired drivers.  They also had a felony Possession of Marijuana arrest, three misdemeanor arrests for: a failure to appear warrant on Driving While Suspended, Operator Never Licensed and Driving While Suspended Prior.  They issued eighteen tickets for: a seat belt (1), open container (1), driving while suspended (4) and other miscellaneous infractions.

Troopers from the Indiana State Police, Lowell District will continue to participate with County and Local law enforcement agencies in the Drunk Driving, Over the Limit, Under Arrest, March crackdown on impaired and dangerous driving.

The Indiana State Police are committed to traffic safety and will continue to conduct saturation patrols and sobriety checkpoints to apprehend impaired drivers and to deter others from drinking and driving.
