Entry Description
Vigo County—At 1:45 PM, Indiana State Police troopers responded to a tractor-trailer crash in the westbound lanes of Interstate 70 near the 3 mile marker. No injuries were reported and no other vehicles were involved.
Preliminary investigation revealed a white, 2010 Freightliner tractor pulling a box trailer loaded with auto parts was westbound on I-70 near the 3mm, when the driver failed to properly slow for traffic that had slowed and moved into the passing lane. The tractor-trailer then veered into the median and struck the steel barrier cables before coming to a stop. The other vehicles had moved into the passing lane because ISP troopers had another tractor-trailer stopped on the westbound shoulder for a traffic violation. Approximately 150 feet of barrier cable was damaged.
The driver was identified as Anthony Williams, age 58, of Carthage, IN. Mr. Williams was cited for Speed too Fast to Avoid a Collision and released.
The Werner Enterprise tractor trailer was en route from Indianapolis, IN. to St. Louis, Missouri.
The crash was investigated by ISP Trooper Brent Robinson with ISP Trooper Doug Francis assisting.
The crash did not involve a construction zone.
Westbound traffic was slow in the area for approximately 75 minutes for crash removal. |
