Vigo County-The Vigo County Coroner’s Office has identified the driver of a tractor-trailer combination involved in a fatal crash on May 16th in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 near the 12 mile marker.

Deceased Driver: Alfonso Ochoa Diaz, age 60, of River Rouge, Michigan. He died of blunt force trauma and perished before the tractor was consumed in fire.

The female passenger has yet to be identified, but the efforts to identify her are ongoing. Comparison samples have been difficult for the coroner’s office and ISP to locate.

The crash occurred when the tractor-trailer Diaz was operating failed to slow and struck another tractor-trailer in the rear, subsequently catching fire. Both Diaz and his passenger were pronounced deceased at the scene.

Once the female has been identified, the information will be released. This could take a few more days.

Drug and alcohol tests are pending.

Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
