Entry Description
Vermillion County—Indiana State Police detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division at the Putnamville Post are currently investigating the burglary of the Cayuga Municipal Building located at 301 South 1st, in Cayuga.
Investigators believe that sometime between 7:30 p.m. on June 19th and 7:30 a.m. this morning, unknown suspect(s) broke out a window on the south side of the building to gain entry. Once inside, the suspect(s) vandalized the Cayuga Marshal’s Office, stole eight older Cayuga Police badges, (3) firearms, and miscellaneous office items.
The Health Clinic office had been rummaged, but an inventory of the items is still underway. Clinic losses are expected to be minimal. The town hall was entered as well, but nothing appeared to be taken or damaged. No entry was made into the Clerk/Treasurer’s Office.
The investigation is underway and no other information will be released. Detectives are following some leads in the case.
The case is being investigated by ISP detective Jim Dungan. Assisting were ISP detectives Sam Stearley and Tom Hanks, ISP Crime Scene Investigator Jim Cody, and Cayuga Marshal Wayne Sager.
