Entry Description

Floyd County-Early this morning at approximately 4:30 AM, the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department received a phone call stating that the caller’s sister had been involved in a vehicle crash somewhere in Floyd County. The caller stated that her sister knew she was in Floyd County on a set of rail road tracks but did not know her exact location.

Officers from the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department and the Indiana State Police Department began a search for the crash and the driver who was allegedly still near the crash scene. At approximately 5:05 AM, Trooper Patrick Stinson of the Indiana State Police Post at Sellersburg saw a white female climb over a steep embankment onto the roadway near the 4600 Block of Corydon Pike in Floyd County.

After talking to the female, identified as April N. Hill, it was determined she was the person involved in the crash.  She was barefoot, bleeding and covered in mud.  She was disoriented and did not know where her vehicle was located.

The vehicle April N. Hill was driving, a 1999 Volkswagen, was located by employees of the Norfolk Southern Rail Road Company. It was located near Corydon Pike on top of the rail road tracks.

The preliminary crash investigation revealed that April N. Hill, allegedly drove onto the rail road tracks at State Road 111 and Corydon Pike. She then drove approximately ¼ mile when her vehicle became stuck in the gravel just prior to entering the Georgetown/Edwardsville rail road tunnel.

April N. Hill, 22, from Greenville, IN, was arrested and charged with: Operating a Vehicle while Intoxicated, Class A Misdemeanor; Operating a Vehicle with a BAC of 1.5% or Higher, Class A Misdemeanor and Disturbing a Train Bed, Class D Felony. She was incarcerated at the Floyd County Jail. She sustained minor injuries from the crash.

The Floyd County Sheriff’s Department and the Norfolk Southern Rail Road Police Department assisted at the scene.

Train service was disrupted for hours due to the crash.

All subjects are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
