Entry Description
Spencer County: Today at approximately 10:12 a.m. CDT the Indiana State Police responded to US 231 and SR 62 for a two vehicle crash with injuries.
Preliminary investigation reveals that a Gray 2005 Chevrolet pick-up truck driven by William S. Arnold, 50, Oakland City had been traveling east on SR 62 at US 231. Arnold had crossed the southbound lanes of US 231 and pulled into the median between the north and southbound lanes. Arnold then began to cross the northbound lanes when he pulled into the path of a 2006 Kenworth semi-tractor trailer driven by Harvey A. Carter, 59, Sardina, OH. The 2006 Kenworth hit the 2005 Chevrolet at a right angle on the passenger’s side. The impact caused both vehicles to leave the roadway and come to rest in a ditch northeast of the intersection.
Arnold, and his two passengers, Jamie Abell, 20, Petersburg and Joshua Bailey, 20, Oakland City were transported from the scene by ambulance and/or air ambulance. Arnold and Abell were taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville. Bailey was first taken to Jasper Memorial Hospital and later transferred to St. Mary's Hospital. Arnold, Abell, and Bailey all suffered cuts and internal injuries that appear to be non-life threatening injuries. Harvey Carter complained of pain but refused medical treatment.
Seatbelts were in use by all involved in the crash.
William Arnold was cited for Failure to Yield the Right of Way.
The northbound lanes of US 231 were closed for approximately two hours while emergency processed and cleaned up the scene.
