Entry Description
Bloomington – (Southern Indiana) Troopers have been made aware of an area scam that includes residents receiving phone calls from persons posing as cable or satellite company representatives. The scammers offer a “continuing subscription” or an “upgrade in services” for the victim if they pay $1.00 and give the operator their credit card information. The scammers then take the credit card information and use it for themselves.
The Indiana State Police would like to help prevent anyone from unwittingly giving their information to people who have other intentions than what they say they represent.
PLEASE REMEMBER –
• Never give out your social security number or birth date.
• Never give out credit, debit, checking, savings or investment information.
• Never agree to send money.
• Attempt to gather information from the caller, and alert law enforcement or the Indiana Attorney General’s Office at 800-382-5516 or www.in.gov/attorneygeneral/
If it’s too good to be true, it probably is!
All subjects are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. |
