Sullivan County—This afternoon, Indiana State Police Troopers and Sullivan County emergency agencies responded to two motor vehicle crashes on US 41 in Sullivan County.

At 2:34p.m., A 1999 Mack tractor pulling a box trailer loaded with meat and driven by 66-year-old Kenneth Gilles of Haubstadt, IN. was stopped for a red light on southbound US 41 at State Road 48. The tractor-trailer, owned by Dewig Meats of Haubstadt, was then struck in the rear by a 2005 International tractor pulling an empty box trailer owned by Marvin Keller Trucking of Sullivan, Illinois and driven by 35-year-old Aaron Prosser of Taylorville, Illinois. Both Gilles and Prosser were treated at Sullivan County Hospital for complaint of pain. The crash was investigated by ISP Master Trooper Polly Blackburn. Assisting were ISP Senior Trooper Mark Overpeck, Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, Sullivan County EMS, Farmersburg and Shelburn Town Marshal’s Offices, and Shelburn and Farmersburg Fire/Rescue Departments. The investigation is ongoing and a commercial motor vehicle inspection of the Prosser vehicle will be completed on Tuesday, August 21st. At this time, no citations have been issued and no evidence of intoxication was found on either driver.

At 3:30p.m., troopers responded to eastbound State Road 154 at US 41 to investigate a crash involving a 1998 Freightliner school bus owned by the Rural Christian Academy (Charter School) in Graysville, IN. and driven by 50-year-old Rosemary Guyer of Merom, IN. The bus was stopped for a red light and struck in the rear by a black, 2001, Ford Taurus driven by 42-year-old Cheryl Pickard of Sullivan, IN. The bus had 45 students aboard plus the driver and no one reported injuries. Pickard reported no injuries, but was incarcerated in the Sullivan County Jail for Driving While Suspended (Prior), Class A misdemeanor. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor in this crash. The crash was investigated by ISP Senior Trooper Mark Overpeck. Assisting was ISP Master Trooper Polly Blackburn.

Under the law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
