Temporary Stops on Range Line Road
Monday Afternoon for Beam Setting

CARMEL, Ind. – Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) contractors will temporarily stop traffic on Range Line Road at US 31 Monday, September 17 as beams are placed for the new northbound overpass bridge.

Walsh Construction, the state’s contractor, will place seven beams over Range Line Road between 12:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.  Uniformed officers will stop traffic on Range Line Road while cranes lift the beams from transport trucks and set them in place.  Once each beam is in place, traffic will be allowed to clear before the next beam is staged.

INDOT expects each traffic stoppage on Range Line Road to take up to 10 minutes.  Traffic on US 31 will not be affected.

Walsh is also reconstructing the northbound Keystone Parkway ramp to US 31, which closed for 80 days on July 30.  The $35 million contract is expected to be complete in November.  The interchange upgrade will create a ramp system connecting US 31 and 146th Street and more efficient ramp motions to and from US 31 and Keystone Parkway.

The interchange construction is part of a Major Moves program to upgrade or bypass congested sections of US 31 between Indianapolis and South Bend.  INDOT will bundle remaining construction phases for the new US 31 Hamilton County corridor into one contract for bid later this year.  The new interstate-quality freeway is expected to open to traffic by the end of 2015, which is three years earlier than was previously anticipated.
