Entry Description
Lake County-Charges were served yesterday, Wednesday, October 3rd, for murder on a cold case that began in October 2009.
On August 30, 2010 a local resident was walking through sand dunes in an area north of Melton Road in Gar when they found a shallow hole filled with bones. It subsequently was determined to be a grave site and bones and clothing were recovered.
In January, 2011 Chesterton Police Department began an investigation into a missing person/possible murder of a woman named Sylvia Marie Jones.
In November, 2009 a personal item of Jones was found in possession (and placed into evidence) of a Johnnathan A. Fuller, 38, formerly from Michigan City, when he was arrested on a separate unrelated charge by the Porter County Sheriff’s Department.
Further investigation revealed that statements were allegedly made by Fuller that implicated he was involved in her murder.
Doctor Stephen Nawrocki , a forensic anthropologist, with the University of Indianapolis was able to determine that the DNA profile extracted from the bones found at the sand dunes where Sylvia Marie Jones.
Johnnathan Fuller is currently being held at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility in Carlisle, Indiana for an unrelated felony. He was served yesterday by a detective with the Indiana State Police Putnamville District.
