Entry Description
Jefferson County: Early Sunday morning, October 14 a bicyclist was air cared after he was struck by a vehicle. According to Trooper Joe May, early Sunday morning at approximately 2:55 a 2004 Honda Civic driven by 50 year old Keith Leuders of Madison was traveling west on S.R. 62 east of Clifty Falls State Park when he struck a bicycle being ridden by 20 year old Gerald W. Ritch also of Madison. Leuders told Tpr. May the bicycle was right in the center of the lane, didn’t have any lighting, and the operator was not wearing any reflective clothing. Ritch, who was not wearing a helmet was air-cared to University Hospital in Louisville, KY and was released later in the day Sunday. Evidence suggests Ritch may have been intoxicated at the time of the crash and Tpr. May believes alcohol was a likely factor in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation. Tpr. May was assisted by Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and Madison Police Department. |
