Entry Description

Plainfield, IN- Recently, the Indiana State Police Capitol Police Section added seven officers to their ranks when the officer’s graduated from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in Plainfield, Indiana.

The Indiana Law Enforcement Academy is a live-in academy located in Plainfield, Indiana and comprises a course of academic and field instruction designed to acquaint the applicant with the performance, functions and duties of a Capitol Police Officer. The conduct of the school closely corresponds to training for officer candidates in military services. Officers receive 600 hours of training in various law enforcement subjects including criminal investigation, traffic law, emergency vehicle operation and physical fitness conditioning. Training is typically conducted Monday through Friday with recruits returning home on the weekends.

Capitol Police Officers are tasked with providing the protection for elected officials, visiting VIPs, and 20,000 state employees and visitors daily along with the enforcement of state laws. The highest priority of a Capitol Police Officer is the physical security of the buildings, properties, and personnel in and around the Government Center Complex.

“We are pleased to welcome the recent graduates to the CPS” stated Lieutenant Troy McElfresh, commander of the Indiana State Police Capitol Police Division.” They will begin patrol immediately in the downtown Government Center Complex.”
