Entry Description

Putnam County—At 1:30 this morning, Indiana State Police and Putnam County emergency agencies responded to a report of a motor vehicle into a building at 54 South Main Street in Cloverdale. The crash resulted in three persons treated at Putnam County Hospital for minor injuries and then incarcerated in the Putnam County Jail on numerous charges.

Arrested: Brice C. Steinbaker, age 21, Greencastle, IN.
Charges: Strangulation, class “D” felony; Battery, “A” misdemeanor;
Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated, “A” misdemeanor
Held in the Putnam County with no bond

Arrested: Terry A. Gulley Jr., age 24, of Indianapolis, IN.
Charges: Battery with a Deadly Weapon, class “C” felony; Battery, “A” misdemeanor;
Disorderly Conduct, “B” misdemeanor; Public Intoxication, “B” misdemeanor
Obstructing Emergency Medical Personnel, class “B” misdemeanor
Held in the Putnam County Jail with no bond

Arrested: Jenneya M. Bruce, age 31, Reelsville, IN.
Charges: Disorderly Conduct, “B” misdemeanor;
Obstructing Emergency Medical Personnel, “B” Misdemeanor
Held in the Putnam County Jail with bond set at $250.

Preliminary investigation revealed the three were attempting to leave westbound from the “Ye Olde Inn” bar parking lot in Gulley’s black 1998 Chevrolet pickup with Steinbaker driving. A struggle began inside the vehicle with thrown punches between Steinbaker and Gulley and escalated with Steinbaker allegedly trying to strangle Gulley. Gulley then retaliated by allegedly stabbing Steinbaker in the face with a sharp object. During the fight, the pickup accelerated across Main Street (US 231) and struck an unknown building next to Rebel’s Saloon at 54 South Main Street. Patrons of Rebel’s Saloon noticed the disturbance, exited the bar, and detained the three occupants of the truck until police arrived. Steinbaker, Gulley, and Bruce were transported to Putnam County Hospital for minor injuries. During the hospital commute, Bruce and Gulley became combative with Putnam County EMS medics and had to be restrained. All three were treated and released from Putnam County Hospital then taken to the Putnam County Jail. Damage to the building was minimal; the truck was a total loss.

The case/arrests were investigated by ISP Trooper Jonathan Cumbie. Assisting were the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, Putnam County EMS, and Cloverdale Police and Fire Departments.

Under the law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
