Entry Description
Lake County-Today, January 29, 2013, at approximately 11:54 a.m., Master Trooper Glen Fifield made a traffic stop east bound on I-80 at the 11.5 mile marker (this is 1 ½ miles west of Central Avenue) that turned into a pursuit.
Trooper Fifield was patrolling in his Indiana State Police high performance Mustang when he observed a gold Dodge Intrepid coming up behind him at a high rate of speed. Fifield was able to get a radar clock on the Intrepid at 80 miles per hour in a well posted 55 mile per hour zone. After pulling the Intrepid over Fifield noticed that the car had truck plates on it; and the driver only had an Indiana Identification Card. The driver, David I. Serrano, 43 of Gary, was later found to be suspended prior and was wanted on seven warrants out of Lake County.
Serrano fled in his car, even though Trooper Fifield had Serrano’s ID card in his hand. Serrano went east on I-80 and exited off onto the Central Avenue ramp where he then went west on Central into Gary. He tried to evade Fifield and Gary Police by driving into a wooded area near 8th and Martin Luther King Drive. Officers were able to locate Serrano and took him into custody without incidence. Alcohol was also a factor.
Serrano was taken to Lake County Jail where he is charged with:
Resisting Law Enforcement-Class D Felony
Driving While Suspended-Class A Misdemeanor
Operating While Intoxicated
Reckless Driving-Class A Misdemeanor
