Entry Description
The investigation of yesterday’s multiple vehicle crash on I-70 east and west bound remains under investigation and will take several more days to complete. Information available at this time is there were a total of 23 semi tractor trailer vehicles and 17 passenger vehicles involved in the various crashes that occurred in short proximity to each other. There were 10 people reported injured and transported from the scene to Methodist, Wishard, IU Health West and Hendricks County Hospital. One person died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. He was identified as Harkirat Sohal (Harry), 25, from Ontario, Canada. Mr. Sohal was in the sleeper of a 2012 Freightliner semi-tractor trailer that was being driven by his father, Satpal Sohal, 51, Of Ontario, Canada. Sohal was traveling WB on I-70.
At this time indications are snow squalls were a contributing factor to this crash when visibility declined rapidly and drivers slowed rapidly but at different rates thus resulting in the numerous collisions. There were a total of 23 vehicles involved in the crashes on west bound I-70 and 17 vehicles involved in the crashes on east bound I-70.
The investigation of the multiple crashes that occurred at this scene is anticipated to be completed within the next 10 days. |
