Entry Description
Vigo County—This morning at 8:45, Indiana State Police Troopers and Vigo County emergency agencies responded to an overturned tractor-trailer on Interstate 70 near the 2 mile marker. The crash was just east of the entrance to the Clear Creek Rest Area.
Preliminary investigation revealed Larry Larson, age 69, of Scandia, Kansas was driving a red, 2007, International tractor pulling a box trailer loaded with 20,000 pounds of dry insulation, eastbound on I-70 in the driving lane. Suddenly the tractor-trailer veered to the right, struck and destroyed nearly 100 feet of guardrail before overturning onto the passenger side in a wooded area. It is believed Mr. Larson may have fallen asleep.
A minimal amount of diesel fuel was leaking into the ditch, but was quickly contained by the Sugar Creek Fire/Rescue Department.
The tractor-trailer belonged to Doug Bradley Trucking of Salina, Kansas and was enroute from Salina to Richmond, Indiana. Mr. Larson was not injured and no tickets were issued at the time of this release.
Traffic will be slow in the area for some time while Curtis Wrecker Service conducts the crash clean-up. Crash clean-up is expected to take about two hours. No estimate at this time when all lanes will be open.
The crash was investigated by ISP Trooper Polly Blackburn with ISP troopers Jason Schoffstall and Ian Portieus and the West Terre Haute Police Department assisting. |
