[multiple] [s39] Sen. Waterman’s Bill to Prohibit Enforcement of Foreign Law Passes Committee, Heads to Full Senate
Start Date: 2/21/2013Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 2/21/2013
Entry Description
STATEHOUSE (Feb. 20, 2013) —State Sen. John Waterman’s (R-Shelburn) bill to prohibit the enforcement of foreign law in Indiana passed the Senate Committee on Judiciary today.

Senate Bill 460 would make enforcement of foreign law illegal in Indiana if the enforcement would violate a right granted by the Constitution of the State of Indiana or the U.S. Constitution.

“Residents of our country and state live by unique values and abide by a system of laws unlike anywhere else in the world,” Waterman said. “This bill makes sure Hoosiers are fully protected by these laws and that our judiciary cannot apply any other system of laws to our citizens. I strongly believe it is our duty as a state to defend the freedoms guaranteed to us in the Constitution and prevent the application of foreign laws that run counter to the principles on which our nation was founded.”

SB 460 now moves to the full Senate for further consideration.
