INDIANAPOLIS – THE SENATE UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED A PROPOSAL BY STATE SENATOR FRANK MRVAN (D-HAMMOND) ON THURSDAY THAT AIMS TO PROTECT VICTIMS OF CHILD ABUSE. SENATE BILL (SB) 142 WOULD INCREASE THE AMOUNT OF TIME THAT VICTIMS OF CHILD ABUSE HAVE TO FILE CIVIL ACTION OR CRIMINAL PROSECUTION FOR CERTAIN SEXUAL OFFENSES. SEN. MRVAN NOTED THAT ALLOWING THESE INDIVIDUALS DOUBLE THE AMOUNT OF TIME TO FILE SUITS FOR THESE OFFENSES GIVES THEM THE ABILITY TO MATURE, LEAVE THE DEPENDENCY OF THE OFFENDER AND FIND THEIR VOICE IN ORDER TO AIR THEIR GRIEVANCES. SB 142 NOW MOVES TO THE HOUSE FOR FURTHER CONSIDERATION.
