Entry Description
The House budget invests in the “Crossroads of America”
STATEHOUSE — Rep. Hal Slager (R-Schererville) is very pleased with the proposals in House Bill 1001, the Indiana Budget. The budget has a strong focus on building and maintaining infrastructure, high quality job growth, bridging the skills gap, education, protecting the vulnerable, protecting the taxpayer and focus on fiscal integrity.
"The House’s budget supports boosting Indiana’s position as the Crossroads of America,” said Rep. Slager. “Strengthening our infrastructure is crucial for Indiana to continue to attract businesses and individuals who contribute in driving an economic environment favorable to incentivize high quality job growth for Hoosiers.”
HB 1001 contains sustainable funding for transportation projects through building and maintaining infrastructure. The budget will eliminate “off-the-top” expenses from the Motor Vehicle Account (MVHA), in addition to dictating an amount equal to 20 percent of the state sales tax on gas to the MVHA. Road and bridge funding will permanently increase by $250 million with the two proposals combined. Airport development projects will also double the state match from $2.4 million to $4.8 million per year.
HB 1001 will allow for sustainable spending levels in the future. Assuming conservative revenue growth and budget appropriation growth rates, structural balance will be maintained years into the future.
“The transportation industry is crucial to our state’s economy. Building and maintaining Hoosier infrastructure is vital for Indiana to continue to be rated as the best in the Midwest for its competitive business,” said Rep. Slager. |
