Entry Description
New Albany-This morning at approximately 12:35 am, Trooper Patrick Stinson from the Indiana State Police Post at Sellersburg made a traffic stop on a 2003 silver Mitsubishi for a traffic violation. The traffic stop was made at Spring Street and Silver Street in New Albany. During the traffic stop the front seat passenger was asked to identify himself. The male passenger stated his name was Joe Smith and he was 24 years old. Officers at the scene could obviously tell the passenger was much older than he was saying and also suspected he was not giving his proper name. Through further investigation of the passenger it was determined his real identity was Joseph D. Powers, 41, from Taggart Avenue in Clarksville, IN. After he was identified it was discovered he was a fugitive with two arrest warrants from Floyd County, IN and one from Harrison County, IN. During the arrest of Joseph D. Powers suspected heroin was found on his person.
Joseph D. Powers was incarcerated at the Floyd County Jail awaiting his first court appearance. He was charged with Dealing in Heroin, C Felony; Possession of Heroin, D Felony; False Informing, A Misdemeanor; Floyd County Arrest Warrant for Battery, (Two Counts); Harrison County Arrest Warrant for Operating While Intoxicated.
The New Albany City Police Department assisted during this investigation. |
