Entry Description
STATEHOUSE (March 13, 2013) —
State Sen. Brandt Hershman’s (R-Buck Creek) proposal to honor local Medal of
Honor recipients by naming one-mile sections of the Hoosier Heartland Corridor
in their honor advanced today after receiving approval from the House of
Representatives Committee on Roads and Transportation.
Senate
Concurrent Resolution 15 urges the Indiana Department of Transportation
(INDOT) to rename three parts of the Tippecanoe County highway after U.S.
Army Lt. William P. Thompson, U.S.
Marine Corps Gen. David M. Shoup and U.S. Army
Master Sgt. Thomas E. McCall.
“Renaming Indiana’s crossroads is
a tradition used to honor our greatest heroes,” Hershman said. “I count these
Tippecanoe County veterans among those that should be recognized as outstanding
Hoosier heroes. Signs on the Heartland Corridor will be used to remind both
residents and visitors of the sacrifices they made and the patriotism that
lives on in our community.”
The bill’s House sponsors include
State Reps. Randy Truitt (R-West Lafayette), Don Lehe (R-Brookston), Tim Brown
(R-Crawfordsville) and Sheila Klinker (D-Lafayette).
SCR 15 now moves to the full
House for consideration. After final approval, INDOT is charged with taking
further action.
