Entry Description
Jasper County-Yesterday evening, March 13th, 2013, a semi driver lost control of his semi-tractor trailer causing him to go off the interstate and hit the median cable barriers on I-65 at the 207 milemarker (this is 2 miles north of the Rennselaer/Remington exit).
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Dennis Simcoe revealed that, at approximately 8:16 p.m., yesterday, a 2011 Freightliner, driven by Linwood Uhler, 64 of Carthage, Missouri, was northbound on I-65 in the left lane when for unknown reasons left the roadway. The semi went off the road, into the grassy median, through the median cable barriers and up onto southbound I-65 traveling across both lanes. The semi came to rest (upright) on the outer shoulder of southbound I-65 facing north.
A 2008 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Bobby Gill, Jr., 39 of Gary, was southbound on I-65 when it hit the cable barriers that were strung across southbound I-65 lanes and were still attached to the semi. This caused the Impala to lose control and strike the underside of the Freightliner’s trailer.
Uhler was released at the scene and Gill was taken to Jasper County Hospital in Rennselaer with non-life threatening injuries to his arms.
Southbound lanes of I-65 were closed for approximately two hours to remove the cable from the semi and the interstate.
