Entry Description
Indianapolis, IN-Friday, March 15th, at 1:30 a.m., Indiana State Police responded to a passing motorists call that a semi-tractor trailer had possibly struck a deer on I-70 EB at the 92 mm. The motorists reported that the semi had front end damage and was stationary on the emergency shoulder.
When troopers arrived at the scene they discovered that the semi had struck a pedestrian, not a deer, and the semi-tractor trailer was no longer at the scene.
The semi was located at the Pilot Station on Mount Comfort Rd, exit 96. The driver of the semi, Andres Ivan Cespedes Delgado, 40, of Miami Fl., approached a Hancock County Deputy in the parking lot and stated that he thought that he had struck a deer on I-70. The driver was transported to Wishard Hospital for a consensual blood alcohol test. Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the crash.
The pedestrian, identified as Johnny R. Cole, 33, of Greenfield, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Marion County Coroner’s Office. Troopers are investigating why Mr. Cole was on the interstate, in the middle lane, as there were not any disabled cars in the area that he would have been walking from.
The EB lanes of the interstate where closed for approximately 3.5 hours while the crash was investigated and the wreckage cleared.
When completed, troopers will submit the crash report to the Marion County Prosecutors Office for review.
Investigating Officer- Trooper Jonathon Caddell , Indiana State Police.
Assisting Agencies- Marion County Coroner’s Office, Indiana Department of Transportation.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. |
