Entry Description
Rep. Speedy files five bills
STATEHOUSE – State Rep. Mike Speedy (R-Indianapolis) has filed five pieces of legislation for the 2014 legislative session yesterday.

Among the bills he is authoring is House Bill (HB) 1382, which increases the punishment for failing to stop or return to an accident scene. Rep. Speedy hopes that HB 1382 will give a greater sense of justice to victims of hit-and-run automobile accidents, particularly if the accident resulted in bodily injury.

Other bills by Rep. Speedy include:
HB 1381, a tax cut for Hoosier military veterans. The bill would remove the age limit on the military service tax deduction for the first $5,000 received by an individual for retirement or survivor’s benefits.
HB 1383, a tax deduction for expenditures at fitness facilities. The deduction would serve as an incentive for Hoosiers to live a healthier lifestyle.
HB 1384, preventing police officers from extracting information from cell phones without the owner’s consent.
HB 1385 clarifies the rights of self-service storage facility owners.

Rep. Speedy will also be hearing bills in the three committees he serves on: Roads and Transportation as Vice Chairman; Employment, Labor and Pensions; and Financial Institutions.

“This year is a short session, so we need be diligent and thorough while reviewing and considering legislation,” said Speedy.
“I feel very confident that each and every one of the bills I have filed will have a positive impact on the people of District 90 and Hoosiers across the state. I am looking forward to seeing these through the legislative process.”
