[ISP] One Airlifted from Two Vehicle Crash
Start Date: 2/25/2014Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 2/25/2014
Entry Description

Wayne County – Care Flight was summoned this afternoon for a Union City man injured in a crash involving a passenger car and a semi on I-70 west bound just east of the 134 mile marker. Troopers Doug Snyder and Kris Martin, who were just 3 miles away, were notified of the crash around 1:35 p.m. and arrived at the scene shortly after being notified.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a red 1998 Pontiac, driven by Dustin Alexander, age 33 of Union City, Indiana, was west bound at a high rate of speed when it attempted to pass a car that was in the left lane by driving into the median.

The driver lost control of the Pontiac and the car came back across I-70 west bound striking a guard rail twice before making contact with a west bound semi and hitting the guard rail for a third time.

The car’s driver, Dustin Alexander, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the car onto the safety lane. His wife, Wendy Alexander, age 27, and the couple’s two children, ages 2 and 5, were all properly restrained and were not injured.

Dustin Alexander was air lifted from the scene by Care Flight for internal injuries. The driver of the semi, Youssef Youseff, age 30 of Bayonne New Jersey, was uninjured. The crash had I-70 west bound traffic diverted onto SR1 for nearly one and half hours while crews worked to clear the scene. Troopers were assisted by the Wayne County Sheriff's Department, Cambridge City Fire Department, Dublin EMS and units from the Pace Multi County Task Force.

National statistics show that seatbelts and child restraints, including booster seats, reduce the likely hood of injury during a crash by 50%. Before you take to the road, make sure everyone in your vehicle is properly restrained.
