Crews Paving on I-69, Overnight Restrictions to Binford Boulevard

INDIANAPOLIS – Contractors for the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) plan overnight paving this week on I-69 between I-465 and 96th Street. Beginning tonight, contractors will have various lane restrictions on this segment of I-69 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Two lanes may be restricted after 10 p.m.

Tonight, crews will restrict the right lane of northbound I-69 north of 82nd Street (Exit 201).

Thursday, Friday and Sunday nights, crews plan to restrict left lanes of southbound I-69 near the split to I-465 and Binford Boulevard. Traffic will not be able to access southbound Binford Boulevard from southbound I-69 after approximately 10 p.m. Motorists will be detoured onto westbound I-465 to exit at Allisonville Road and return eastbound on I-465 to access southbound Binford Boulevard.

Rieth-Riley Construction is also currently building auxiliary lanes along southbound I-69 to connect between ramps at 116th Street and 96th Street as well as 96th Street and 82nd Street.

Drivers are advised to practice safe habits in highway work zones, such as following work zone speed limits, maintaining safe distances from other vehicles, and avoiding all distractions. For information on INDOT work zones and highway restrictions, go to or call toll-free 800-261-ROAD (7623).

Last year, Rieth-Riley constructed a new southbound travel lane between 116th Street and I-465 to add capacity and improve traffic flow. The contractor also built northbound auxiliary lanes connecting interchange ramps at 82nd, 96th and 116th streets. The auxiliary lanes are intended to improve traffic flow and strategically alleviate recurring commuting bottlenecks by allowing traffic traveling from one interchange ramp to the next to avoid unnecessarily merging with mainline interstate traffic.

A separate contract made capacity and configuration improvements to the I-69 Exit 205 interchange at State Road 37 and 116th Street that are now open to traffic. For more information about Operation Indy Commute, visit

Motorists, businesses and residents are encouraged to subscribe to receive email updates using the red envelope GovDelivery icon found on any INDOT web page.
