[INDOT - East Central] Crews Replacing Reflective Markers on U.S. 40

End Date: 5/19/2014
Entry Description

Crews Replacing Reflective Markers on U.S. 40

EAST CENTRAL INDIANA – Contractors for the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) plan lane restrictions on U.S. 40 next week to replace snowplowable reflective pavement markers between State Road 9 in Greenfield and U.S. 27 in Richmond.

Crews plan to begin Monday, May 19 in Greenfield and work eastbound to Richmond before returning westbound back to Greenfield. Work is dependent on favorable weather and is expected to be complete by Saturday, May 24. Crews plan to work between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. each day and will require alternating lane restrictions as work progresses along U.S. 40.

The pavement markers are a safety device used on roads to enhance visibility and delineation by reflecting an automobile’s headlights. Markers are embedded into the pavement and have a smooth housing that minimizes contact with snow plow blades. The color of the reflectors typically matches the yellow and white painted stripes on the roadway. Blue reflectors are also commonly used to identify locations of fire hydrants.

Motorists should be alert for lane restrictions and crews working on U.S. 40 in Hancock, Henry and Wayne counties during daylight hours next week. Always practice safe driving habits in work zones, including following speed limits, maintaining safe distances from other vehicles, and avoiding all distractions.

Motorists, residents and businesses are encouraged to visit www.indot.in.gov and subscribe to email updates using the GovDelivery red envelope icon. Updates are also available by liking the Indiana Department of Transportation East Central Facebook page and by following @INDOT_ECentral on Twitter.
