Repairs This Week on East Side I-70 Ramp to I-465

INDIANAPOLIS – Contractors for the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) plan repairs this week on the westbound I-70 ramp to southbound I-465 on the city’s east side.

Beginning at 9 p.m. tonight, crews will close the left lane on the ramp from westbound I-70 to southbound I-465 for maintenance repairs to a bridge slope wall. This lane restriction is scheduled to repeat Tuesday and Wednesday nights and end by 6 a.m. the following days.

As part of a separate contract, the same ramp is scheduled to close completely for pavement replacement this weekend beginning Friday, June 27 at 9 p.m. Access to northbound I-465 will remain open.

Dynamic message signs and detour route markers will direct traffic to continue west on I-70 to Shadeland Avenue (Exit 89) and return eastbound on I-70 to access southbound I-465. The ramp is expected to open by 6 a.m. on Monday, June 30.

These repairs are recurring and additional weekend ramp closures should be expected. Only one of the two ramps—northbound or southbound—will be closed at a time each weekend through August. Weather permitting, a ramp will close at 9 p.m. Friday and is expected to reopen by 6 a.m. the following Monday. Specific ramp closures will be updated weekly as crews progress with repairs.

For the safety of workers and motorists, always comply with work zone speed limits, maintain safe distances from other vehicles and avoid all distractions—including cell phones. The Indiana Work Zone Safety Law sets steep penalties for driving infractions within highway work zones. INDOT partners with the Indiana State Police to provide increased patrols and promote public safety in work zones. For more information on work zone safety, go to
