Marion County - The Indiana State Police Capitol Police Section is now accepting applications for the position of Capitol Police Officer. These officers are responsible for the protection of the Indiana Statehouse, Governor’s residence and surrounding state government facilities. Individuals who are interested in beginning a rewarding career as a Capitol Police Officer may apply online at This website will provide a detailed synopsis of the application process as well as a career with the Capitol Police Section of the Indiana State Police Department.

Applications must be received via e-mail by 11:59 pm (Indianapolis time) on Sunday, July 6, 2014. Applications received after the deadline will not be accepted for the 22nd Capitol Police Selection Process.

Basic Eligibility Requirements and consideration factors for a Capitol Police Officer:

1. Be a United States citizen

2. Be at least 21 years old when appointed as a police employee.

3. Have vision correctable to 20/50.

4. Possess a valid driver's license to operate an automobile.

5. Possess a high school diploma or GED.

The Indiana State Police Capitol Police Section salary is competitive with the surrounding agencies. An officer is paid $1,342.30 bi-weekly during the probationary year and academy training. At the completion of the probationary year, the starting salary is $36,101 a year. The Indiana State Police Department also offers an excellent health care plan, which includes medical, dental, vision and pharmacy coverage for both current and retired employees, along with their families. Additionally, the Capitol Police Section of the Indiana State Police Department provides comprehensive disability coverage and a life insurance program.
