Division of Fire and Building Safety - Design Release Service
This service allows building owners, designers, and architects to submit building plans to the DHS Plan Review staff. DHS reviews plans for construction and alteration of Class I structures for compliance with applicable adopted codes and standards, and prepares design releases for approval by the State Building Commissioner.
This service allows you to file new design releases as well as modify or amend existing filings.
Before you begin a new filing...
- Determine if your project requires filing with the state
- If so, please have ready:
- Information about the building or building site
- Information about the owner of the building or site
- Information about the designer working on the project
- Information about the nature of the project
- A valid MasterCard or Visa debit or credit card, Discover credit card, or banking information for an electronic check
If you are amending or modifying a previous filing...
Please have ready:- Your filing number
- Detailed information regarding the changes being made
- A valid MasterCard or Visa debit or credit card, Discover credit card, or banking information for an electronic check
Note: To upload additional information on a previously filed project, select “Upload Additional Files".
Other important information when filing the project
- Please upload a signed and executed copy of
application(s) saved as a PDF file type (to be sent along with drawing files). - When filing on-line with multiple design professionals (multiple page 1’s of application) you’re only required to input one design professional (Architect – preferably ). The additional design professionals hard copies shall be uploaded with the design professional that was input along with the drawings and all other project documents.
- Keep all the information at hand when filing, if the web application times out you have to re-type all the information.
- Currently there is a 80 MB limit per upload on the size of files you can upload to our server. (multiple uploads allowed per filing).
- Use the Help available in the application in selecting number and types of buildings and area of the buildings accurately.
- Starting July 1, 2020, Indiana Code requires all applications to be filed electronically, unless it imposes an undue hardship. - You will have to pay instant access fee and credit card fee or a $1.00 e-check fee besides the normal project filing and form fees to avail of this service.
