Arts Day brings together hundreds of artists, arts administrators, and arts business owners from across the state to visit with their State Senators and Representatives and inform them about the positive impact of the arts on Hoosier lives, communities, and the state's economy.
The Indiana Coalition for the Arts hosted the 12th Annual Arts Day at the State House on Tuesday, January 26th, 2010.
Indiana artists, arts leaders, citizens, and legislators showed their support of the arts by attending this event that included exhibits from the Indiana Arts Commission's 12 Regional Arts Partners, as well as arts organizations from around the state. Many different artists performed, including Indiana Poet Laureate Norbert Krapf, the Griot Storytellers of Africa led by musician Khabir Shareef, and Bamboo Steve Pollitt.
Arts Day also included the Community Arts Leadership Awards (CALA) ceremony, which honored four outstanding Hoosiers for their part in advancing the cause of community and local arts in Indiana. CALA awards were presented to the following people:
Arts Volunteer: Miriam Robeson, Attorney at Law, Flora
Arts Educator: Judy Ward, Visual and Performing Arts Cooperative, Wabash County Schools, Wabash
Arts Administrator: Eric Rogers, Executive Director, Arts Place, Inc., Portland
Arts Advocate: Joy Bailey, Hoosier Salon Board of Directors, Monticello
Each recipient received an original piece of art created by Indiana glass artist Kathleen Kitch, crafted in her studio overlooking Big Pine Creek in Warren County.
