You may choose from over 75 license plate designs including Indiana's standard and historic plates, plates that support military personnel and their families, plates that benefit local schools or organizations, personalized plates, and plates for specific types of vehicles. Every vehicle registered in Indiana must bear a license plate in a visible location on the rear of the vehicle.
Two new specialty license plates honoring Indiana's military service members will be available in 2010. The POW-MIA license plate remembers all Hoosier veterans who are missing in action or listed as prisoners of war and will be available to any Indiana motorist. The Gold Star Family license plate commemorates Indiana's fallen heroes and will be available to spouses, parents, siblings or children of anyone who died while serving on active duty.
Your plate should have stickers showing the day, month, and year of your next registration renewal, and the county in which your vehicle is registered. Indiana law prohibits license plate frames or covers that obscure stickers, text, or numbers on your plate.
Organizations that would like to sponsor a special group recognition license plate must complete and return an application by March 31.
You may also plate an antique vehicle with an antique license plate issued by Indiana in the year that your vehicle was manufactured.
A disability license plate or disability parking placard allows the holder to park in areas designated for disabled drivers.
