Officially Identifying Sheep & Goats Guidance Document

The USDA discontinued the distribution of free metal Scrapie flock ID tags to producers on August 31, 2019. However, under the National Scrapie Eradication Program, first-time participants in the sheep and goat identification program may still receive up to 100 plastic flock ID tags at no cost, while funding remains available. Please note that USDA funding for complimentary tag applicators ended in 2017. Producers must now purchase the appropriate tag applicator directly from the tag manufacturer.

INDIANA ORIGIN FIRST-TIME TAG ORDER

• Is your flock located within Indiana and are you new to the sheep and goat identification program? First-time participants, please apply for an Indiana Scrapie flock ID and order official tags online here or use this printer-friendly application here.

INDIANA ORIGIN REORDER TAGS

• Is your flock located within Indiana and do you need to reorder official sheep/goat Scrapie flock ID tags? Flock owners reordering tags must purchase tags directly from a tag supplier. When ordering official tags, be sure to order only approved USDA Scrapie Eradication Program tags. To purchase official tags, you will need to provide your Federal Premises Identification number (PIN), your Scrapie flock ID number, and tag sequence to the tag supplier.

OUSIDE OF INDIANA TAG ORDERS

• Sheep and Goat owners whose flock is located outside of Indiana must request official tags from their state of origin by calling (1-866-USDA-TAG).
