Great Indiana Getaway Contest Announced

With summer travel season now in full gear, Indiana Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman is encouraging Hoosiers to support Indiana tourism destinations through a summer promotion called The Great Indiana Getaway. Sponsored by the Indiana Office of Tourism Development, the contest will award three Indiana getaway packages.

Phase one of the promotion runs from July 5 to July 13 when voters can log on to VisitIndiana.com/greatgetaway and rank their three favorite getaways from a list of 12 getaways across the state. The Web page features special icons located on an Indiana map that voters can click on to learn more about each getaway. Those interested in participating can vote an unlimited number of times.

During the second phase, July 16 to July 27, voters can revisit the site to view the itineraries for the top three getaways and write a short essay explaining why they should be selected to go on one of the Great Indiana Getaway trips. Letters must be specific to a particular getaway location, but people may submit letters for all three destinations. Winners will be announced on August 1.

The winning contestants will receive a three-day, two night trip for four to their selected getaway, a $500 Circle K gas card, and four “Making Memories” packages which include an RCA Small Wonder digital camcorder and an RCA Opal mp3 player.

“Whether you’re traveling on a tight budget, looking for a weekend trip, or planning your annual family getaway, Indiana has a vacation destination for everyone,” Skillman said. “Visiting one of our in-state attractions helps support our local economies while avoiding the pain at the pump.”

The 12 destinations featured in The Great Indiana Getaway are: Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, Amish Country/South Bend, Indianapolis/Hamilton County, Indianapolis/Hendricks County, Fort Wayne, Richmond/Antique Alley, Lafayette/Indiana Beach, Turkey Run State Park/Covered Bridges, Holiday World/Evansville, French Lick/West Baden, Brown County/Bloomington/Columbus, and Madison/Vevay.
