Dear Local Official:
Congratulations on your election and thank you for accepting a role in public service. One of the ways we can best serve the taxpayers is through on-time property tax billing. This has been the primary goal of the Department since 2008, and one shared by local officials.
While this goal has been challenging, and we have met obstacles along the way, working together, in 2014, we achieved on-time billing in all 92 counties.
As you may know, on-time billing provides predictability for taxpayers because they know when to expect their bills. It also provides local units of government with expected cash flow, reducing or eliminating the need for costly borrowing to continue to provide services to taxpayers.
For our part, the Department works to ensure on-time billing in Indiana counties while justly and fairly administering the property tax code. We put taxpayers first, respect local control, and expect excellence in all that we do. These core values have enabled the Department to serve taxpayers and support you in your important work.
To assist you, the Department has created a New Official Packet containing information that directly relates to your role in local government. We are hopeful that this information, along with the experience that comes with time, will provide you with intricate knowledge of the local processes and procedures that will be critical in achieving our joint goal in the future.
Please do not hesitate to contact me with questions, concerns, or comments about the Department and ways we can improve, streamline, and simplify processes, or to discuss other solutions that will help us achieve our goals. You may reach my via e-mail as email@example.com.
I look forward to meeting those of you whom I have not already met and working with you to serve the citizens of this state.
Thank you for your service and dedication to your local communities.
Courtney Schaafsma, Commissioner
