Despite its fierce appearance, the potter wasp is one of the gentlest of the wasps. They won’t sting people, even in defense of their nest. But leaving their small, pottery-shaped nests alone is wise. They are one of our native pollinators and help control garden pests.

Dennis was excited to see this great blue heron in mid-March 2014 on the dock at his home at Lake Holiday. He took it as a sign that warmer weather was around the corner, even though the lake was still almost completely covered with ice. He said the heron waited days for the ice to melt.
