This Eastern screech owl was sitting on Natalie’s eagle statue, right outside her door, around midnight. She opened the door, sat down about 5 feet away with her camera, and just kept shooting. The owl didn’t move the whole time and was still there when she went to bed.
The constellation Orion and some nebulosity associated with it appear alongside the winter band of the Milky Way above Brownstown in Jackson County. The photo, taken last February with a Canon 6D, is the culmination of about 45 minutes of exposure shot on a farm Forrest’s family owns.
