The Fair Grounds has several buildings in the modernistic Art Deco style. Art Deco was popular just before and just after WW II--architects were simplifying buildings by “streamlining” their details. Glass block was a new building material and architect Dan Zimmerman used a great deal of it to make the Communications Building look as modern as possible. The hand-carved Indiana limestone medallions (roundels) show different events held at the fair.
