The Environmental Education Association of Indiana (EEAI) is holding their Annual Conference on November 14 – 16 at Camp Camby Conference and Retreat Center located just outside the I-465 loop on the west side of Indianapolis. The theme of this year’s conference is "The Hidden Treasures of Environmental Education- An Urban Perspective". This professional development opportunity promises many educational and hands-on sessions for formal educators, nonformal educators, natural resource professionals and anyone interested in environmental education! Our keynote speakers, Dr. Lenore Tedesco, Director of the Center for Earth and Environmental Science at IUPUI and Jeff Ward, Environmental Education and Land Stewardship Administrator for Indy Parks will present their unique approach to environmental education in Marion County. Entertainment includes a Technology Share Fair as well as Indianapolis storyteller Bob Sander, who conducts educator workshops on how storytelling can be used to encourage both oral and written communication skills. Joe Baust, Director of the Center of Environmental Education at Murray State University and NAAEE Board Member will present a general session addressing the questions of "What is environmental education?", "What are the current trends in EE?" and "What does the future hold for EE?". Wednesday, September 24, 1-3pm: Restoration Techniques for Natural Communities at Purdue Wildlife Area*
Join Zach Lowe, Habitat Specialist for Purdue's Dept of Forestry and Natural Resources, for an on-site overview of restoration techniques, including brush and invasive removal, used to facilitate grassland management at the Purdue Wildlife Area. A tour wagon will be used to transport participants to various research plots on the property.
* Purdue Wildlife Area: Take 26 west across the Purdue Campus; 1/4 mile past 750W turn right (north) into gravel drive where big white pines start (small black & white sign); park at end of lane for 1pm program OR JOIN CARPOOL from leaving
