November 5, 2007
November is upon us, with promises of fall, Thanksgiving, turkey -- and civic responsibility to honor the extension-for-time-to file deadline.
Last April the IRS allowed individual income tax filers an extra day to file their tax returns. Indiana followed suit (see One More Day to File Your Taxes). This changed the due date for filing your 2006 tax return to April 17, 2007.
Many who could not file by that date secured a federal extension of time to file (Form 4868). If you were one of the many, you have until Nov. 19, 2007, to file your Indiana tax return.
Normally you would have until Nov. 17, but because that date falls on a Saturday this year, you have until Monday, Nov. 19 to get your state returned officially filed with the Indiana Department of Revenue.
So as you’re preparing for the November festivities, remember the extension-for-time-to-file deadline of – again – Nov. 19, 2007. Happy holidays!
Welcome to Tax Talk, hosted by DiB (dye-bee), the Indiana Department of Revenue’s individual income tax guru. DiB, who says she’s been with the Department “since the earth cooled” (though it’s actually 30+ years), writes and develops Indiana’s individual income-tax instruction booklets and forms. DiB created Tax Talk to address Indiana individual income tax questions and issues during the filing season. If you would like to submit a question or topic suggestions, please send those to DiB at feedback@dor.in.gov
