A tax protest letter will spell out the exact reason(s) for the protest and the steps you must take to resolve it.
You may call (317) 232-5977 to speak to a representative of the Indiana Department of Revenue regarding your specific case.
Some possible reasons for a tax protest:
In some cases, the renewal of any license issued by the State of Indiana may be held by the Department until such time that all tax issues have been resolved with the Department.
We strongly recommend payment by guaranteed funds to satisfy all outstanding liabilities. Failure to use guaranteed funds will result in a delay in clearances until such time the Department has confirmation that all funds have cleared the banking institution.
Payment using guaranteed funds can be made at the Department's Indianapolis Taxpayer Service Center or any District Office.
You may elect to pay online through our ePay system. Be advised that payment by this method will also delay clearance until the Department has confirmation that all funds have cleared the banking institution.
To expedite the clearance of your license protest, all correspondence, payments and missing returns must be sent directly to the license area of the collection division. If this information is sent through normal channels, it could delay the clearance on your license protest. All information should be sent to:
