IRP Transactions

IRP and BPR transactions must be conducted electronically. The Indiana Department of Revenue (DOR)'s Motor Carrier Services IRP Unit must receive all supporting documentation within 21 days of the transaction processing date. Below are specific IRP transactions and the required items to complete.

Add Vehicle

For processing this type of transaction, provide:

  • A copy of the front and back of a processed title or a title application is required. It must be in the name of the registrant (IRP account holder). If a processed title application is provided, a copy of the front and back of the processed vehicle title must be provided within 45 days.
  • A Federal Form 2290, Schedule 1: Heavy Highway Vehicle Use Tax Return for the current registration period is required if the vehicle is 55,000 lbs. or more. DOR will accept a Schedule 1 stamped by the IRS, or an unstamped Schedule 1 with copies of the front and back of the canceled check.  If the vehicle is a recent purchase, the 2290 must be filed by the last day of the month following the month when the vehicle was first used on public highways. Motor Carrier Services Division accepts 2290 payments unless they are for increasing a vehicle weight.
  • If the vehicle is leased, provide a copy of the lease agreement or a Statement of Vehicle Lease Agreement form.
  • If you are not the Motor Carrier responsible for safety, provide a valid authority lease agreement.

Plate Transfer

For processing this type of transaction, provide:

  • A copy of the front and back of a processed title or title application. It must be in the name of the registrant (IRP account holder). If a processed  title application is provided, a copy of the front and back of the processed vehicle title must be provided within 45 days.
  • A Federal Form 2290, Schedule 1, as required for Add Vehicle transactions.
  • If the vehicle is leased, provide a copy of the lease agreement or a Statement of Vehicle Lease Agreement form.
  • If you are not the Motor Carrier responsible for safety, provide a valid authority lease agreement.
  • The original cab card registration of the transferred plate.

Replacement Plate

For processing this type of transaction, complete:

  • Form INIRP-L: Affidavit for Replacement Apportion IRP License Plate Schedule L.

Other Transactions

Go online or complete Schedule C for processing the following types of transactions:

  • Weight Increase: Include a Federal Form 2290, Schedule 1, as required for Add Vehicle transactions if the vehicle weight is 55,000 pounds or more.
  • VIN Correction: Call 317-615-7200 (option 2) for assistance in correcting a VIN. A copy of the front and back of the processed title or title application showing the corrected vehicle identification number  is required.
  • Model Year Change: Call 317-615-7200 (option 2) for assistance in correcting the model year. A copy of the front and back of the processed title or title application showing the changed model year is required.
  • Weight Decrease: Only decrease weight in Indiana. No refund will be issued.
  • Axle or Seat Increase
  • Purchase Price Change: Include a copy of the front and back of the processed title or title application.
  • Body Type Change: Include a copy of the front and back of the processed title or title application.
  • Unit Number Change
  • Business Address Change: Call 317-615-7200 (option 2) for assistance in updating business address. Valid proof of address is required.
  • Mailing Address Change
  • Vehicle Make Change: Contact 317-615-7200 (option 2) for assistance in changing vehicle make. A copy of the front and back of the processed title or title application is required.
  • Factory Price Change: Include a copy of the front and back of the processed title or title application.
  • Glider Kit: Include a copy of the front and back of a new title or processed title application, and a copy of the bill of sale for the glider kit.
  • Fuel Type Change: Contact 317-615-7200 (option 2) for assistance in changing fuel type.
