Households with elderly or disabled members, as well as households which pass the gross income test, must also pass a net test to qualify. The net income is determined by subtracting certain allowable deductions from the gross income.

Elderly households are those which contain members age 60 or older. Disabled members are those which receive disability payments, such as Supplemental Security Income (SSI), veteran's disability, or Medicaid as a blind or disabled individual.

The allowable deductions include an allowance for dependent care, medical costs (only for members who are elderly or disabled), court ordered child support, shelter/utility costs, 20 percent of earned income and certain self-employment expenses.

The household must have net income less than the amounts on the following table to receive benefits:

If the household has net income below the above amounts, and meets all other criteria, the allotment of food stamp benefits received is based on the household size and net monthly income. The maximum amount of stamps received is shown in the table below. Please note that this is the maximum amount a household will receive based on $0 income. The greater the net income, a lesser amount of Food Stamps will be received. For example, a household of 3 with $0 net income will receive $526 in Food Stamps. A household of 3 with net income of $700 will receive $316 in Food Stamps.
