10 Principles that Produce Strong, Positive Black Males

  1. The Mentoring principle - older strong positive Black men teaching younger black men and black boys how to become strong positive Black men.
  2. The rites of passage principle - creating a program that moves Black males from boyhood to manhood.
  3. The spiritual and religious principles - finding faith in more than what we see
  4. The health principle - nutrition, exercise, and athletics
  5. The parenting and fatherhood principle - living into the roll of nurturer, provider, and protector for your family
  6. The marriage and partnership principle - becoming a suitable viable life partner
  7. The brotherhood and teamwork principle - working with men to solve the problems of the community
  8. The organizing principle - institution building community building and collective responsibility
  9. The education principle - academic, emotional, social, and cultural
  10. The entrepreneurship principal - understanding labor, work, finance and global economics

Organization Overview

The Black Star Project is a Chicago-based nonprofit that works around the country to help preschoolers to collegians succeed academically with the support of parents and communities. The group focuses on low-income Black and Latino students in low-achieving schools.
