INDIANAPOLIS (August 8, 2005) – Governor Mitch Daniels and Mayor Bart Peterson will join members of Indiana’s Congressional delegation in testifying before members of the Base Realignment and Closure Commission (BRAC) during a hearing Wednesday (August 10) in Washington, D.C.

Introduced by U.S. Sen. Dick Lugar, the governor will lead the Indiana group that will appear before the BRAC Commission to discuss the Defense Finance and Accounting Center (DFAS) in Lawrence.

Senator Lugar will testify first, followed by Gov. Daniels, U.S. Reps. Dan Burton and Julia Carson and Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson. Indiana is allotted one hour by the commission for testimony on the Indianapolis-area facility.

On Aug. 3, BRAC commissioners Secretary Sam Skinner and General Lloyd Newton traveled to Fort Benjamin Harrison to conduct a site visit of the DFAS Center. Lieutenant Governor Becky Skillman and Mayor Peterson led a group that met with commissioners. The commission will continue its information-gathering and analysis with this hearing.

The Indiana portion of the hearing is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. (EDT) in room 216 of the Hart Senate Office Building. The governor will be available to meet with media representatives immediately following the Indiana portion of the meeting outside the meeting room.
