Daily Update – Day 10

September 12, 2005

 

Mission Assignments:

  • Indiana State Police water patrol officer arrested an individual for operating a motorboat without a registration and removal of Indian artifacts in St. Martin Bayou.

 

  • DNR Forestry teams cleared over 200 trees.

 

  • Conservation officers teamed up to perform boat patrols in an area that has reported recent widespread looting.

 

  • 17 members of the medical team gave 169 Tetanus shots and treated 120 persons at a Baptist Church.

 

Evacuee Assistance:

  • FEMA notified the state that all evacuee flights from the area remain on hold.

 

  • Indiana is currently home to an estimated 2,300 evacuees.

 

  • Indiana is encouraging all evacuees residing in Indiana to call the following toll-free number to register with the state and make themselves available for state assistance – 866-679-4631

 

State Government Action:

  • Two vans arrived over the weekend with supplies for Camp Indiana.

 

  • The State is currently processing 151 requests for assistance from evacuees in 18 counties.

To date, Indiana has authorized:

$19,297 in food stamp payments

$2,303 in TANF

6 Medicaid cases

 

  • The next relief team based at Camp Indiana as part of Operation Hoosier Relief will depart Indianapolis on Thursday.  The relief team will depart Biloxi on Saturday and return to Indiana.

 

  • This relief team will consist of:

40 Indiana State Police

37 DNR Officials

42 Health professionals

 

 

Volunteer Efforts:

  • Hoosiers interested in volunteering to help Katrina victims should not self deploy.  All volunteers should be coordinated through Indiana’s Emergency Operations Center.
