Daily Update – Day 12

September 14, 2005

 

Mission Assignments:

 

  • Forestry Crews from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources finished clearing fallen trees in Hiller park area.  DNR removed over 600 trees in the last two days.  Today DNR will move to the Jefferson Davis Historical Site to remove trees and look for artifacts.

 

  • A South Bend medical crew saw 157 patients and assisted with 92 prescriptions.

 

  • A separate medical crew worked in a clinic dispensing 544 Tetanus shots and making six home visits.

 

  • Total patients treated to date – 4,080 local residents and 13 responders.

 

  • Indiana State Police night shift patrols reported eight incidents including stops for DUI and looting.

 

  • ISP provided crowd control at a Red Cross shelter when over 9,000 people showed up to receive emergency debit cards.

 

  • Two Hoosier Helper operators made 56 stops during an 11-hour shift.  The stops were mostly for abandoned vehicles and flat tire assistance.

 

Evacuee Assistance:

 

  • Indiana is currently home to an estimated 3,100 evacuees.

 

  • Indiana is encouraging all evacuees residing in Indiana to call the following toll-free number to register with the state and make themselves available for state assistance – 866-679-4631

 

State Government Action:

 

  • The Indiana Gaming Commission reports that an additional 13 displaced Mississippi casino workers have been transferred to positions at the Belterra Casino.  A total of 14 displaced casino employees from the Gulf region have now been accepted for temporary work at Indiana casinos.

 

 

 

  • The next relief team to travel to Camp Indiana as part of Operation Hoosier relief will depart Indianapolis on Thursday at 9 a.m. from Stout Field.  This team will meet at 8 a.m. for the trip to Camp Indiana.  The current relief team will depart Biloxi on Saturday for Indiana.
