Gentry (1778-1840) settled northwest of here in 1818. A farmer and merchant, Gentry employed Abraham Lincoln to help transport merchandise by flatboat to New Orleans in December, 1828. Lincoln family spent its last night at Gentry's home before leaving for Illinois in 1830.
