The first Soil and Water Conservation District in Indiana was organized here in 1940 -- the last in Tipton County in 1974. The contribution of these districts to the conservation and wise use of soil and water resources has been of great social, economic, and environmental benefit to Indiana. The citizens of Vanderburgh County are recognized for their pioneering leadership.
