Legacy Projects > Heritage Barns of Indiana Painting Project Heritage Barns of Indiana Painting Project

The majority of the paintings in the Heritage Barns of Indiana project are painted on location, the technique called plein air painting. The barns are photographed outside and inside when possible. There are a few exceptions. Severely cold temperatures, prompted some paintings to be completed in the studio. Most paintings are completed in one or two sessions each lasting 3 to 4 hours. Permission from the barn owners is always asked and granted prior to approaching the barn or setting up to paint. The wonderful barn owners also compile the often fascinating, sometimes jaw-dropping family and barn history. And other pertinent barn facts are researched. This information is compiled into the barn’s history, which is exhibited next to the completed painting.
